Basic Handling Skills (BHS) – Learner Licence

Training gives you the skills and confidence you need to pass your test and ride safely on the road. The Learner’s test is about road awareness, control, and safe riding habits.

DM Rider offers two options to suit different levels of experience:

Foundation – Perfect if you’re completely new to riding or only have very limited experience with a clutch. You’ll get 120 minutes of one-to-one coaching, covering everything you need to know, step by step, before you take the test.

Refresher – Best if you already know how to ride and just need to polish your skills before the test. This 60-minute option includes coaching and your test.

Both courses are designed to set you up for success and help you ride with confidence.

No, the Basic Handling Skills test comes first. Once you pass, you’ll receive a certificate that allows you to book your Learner Licence Theory Test.

You can book your Learner Licence Theory Test online or at your local VTNZ or AA testing centre.

Don’t worry. We’ll give you feedback and coaching so you know what to work on before re-sitting.

You’ll need to wear long pants, a long-sleeved top, and closed footwear. We’ll provide a 125cc motorbike and a helmet and gloves, but you’re welcome to bring your own.

Yes, you can, provided it is a LAMS-approved model, and has a current WOF and registration.

Our BHS courses range from 30 minutes for the Test only through to 2 hours for new riders without clutch/gear experience.

Yes, we’ll work with you to reschedule your test or training if weather conditions are unsafe.
