Licence BHST
Getting your motorcycle licence in NZ is a three-step process. First, there’s the Basic Handling Skills Test (BHST). It ensures you have the necessary skills to ride safely on the road when you have your learner licence. Your instructor will guide you through the process and make sure you grow your confidence and skills.

CBTA Restricted Licence
The next step is your Restricted motorcycle licence, which you can achieve through the CBTA – Competency Based Training and Assessment. In this stage, you’ll develop real-world riding skills and build your independence on the road. The CBTA test confirms that you’re ready to ride your motorbike safely and independently.

CBTA Full
Licence
During the CBTA Full Licence Assessment, you’ll be tested on your advanced riding skills and experience on the road. The assessment proves you can handle different traffic situations with confidence and control. You can apply for a full motorcycle licence when you've held your restricted licence for at least 12 months.
